What happens before a soul is born again?
Before you entered this life, you already existed.
According to Spiritism, birth is not the beginning of the soul.
Before returning to a physical body, the Spirit lives in the spiritual world, prepares for a new incarnation, and may take part in choosing some of the circumstances that will shape its next human experience.
But that does not mean every moment of your life was planned, or that every suffering was chosen.
Marie’s Answer
Before you were born, you already existed.
You were not yet the person you are today, with this body, this name, and these memories. But you existed as a Spirit, carrying what you had learned and what you still needed to understand.
According to Spiritism, the time between lives is not an empty sleep.
In the spiritual world, the Spirit can reflect on the life it has lived and prepare for a new human experience.
Depending on its level of awareness, it may take part in choosing some of the general circumstances of its next life: a family environment, a physical condition, a social setting, or a type of challenge that may support its progress.
But this is not a detailed script.
It does not mean that every illness, loss, injustice, or act of violence was chosen before birth. Many events arise from human free will, the decisions of others, and the conditions of life in the material world. Spiritism should never be used to blame someone for their suffering.
The Spirit’s connection with the new body begins at conception and becomes stronger as the body develops. At the same time, its awareness of the spiritual world gradually fades.
At birth, the Spirit does not begin to exist. It begins a new human life.
Its previous memories become hidden, not destroyed. This forgetting allows the Spirit to face the present without being overwhelmed by past guilt, fear, attachment, or conflict.
You may enter life with certain circumstances prepared, but your choices are not fixed.
A life is not a sentence written before birth. It is a new field of possibility.
Before a soul is born again, the Spirit reflects, prepares, and moves toward another opportunity to learn, choose, repair, and grow.
What is the purpose of reincarnation?
If the Spirit returns to life again, the next question is why.
Reincarnation is not simply a return to the physical world. In Spiritism, it is part of a larger process of learning, repair, and spiritual growth.
