What happens before a soul is born again?

Before birth, the Spirit already exists and may prepare for a new incarnation, including some of its future circumstances.

But not every event is planned, and not every suffering is chosen.

  • Before birth, you already existed

    Before you were born, you were not yet the person you are today, with this body, this name, and these memories.

    But according to Spiritism, you already existed as a Spirit, carrying what you had learned and what you still needed to understand.

    Birth does not create the Spirit. It begins another human life.

  • The time between lives is not empty

    Spiritism does not describe the period between incarnations as an unconscious waiting room.

    The Spirit may reflect on the life it has lived, understand more clearly what remains unfinished, and prepare for another earthly experience.

    Between lives, the Spirit can continue to learn and prepare.

  • Some circumstances may be prepared

    Depending on its awareness, a Spirit may participate in choosing some general circumstances of its next life: a family environment, physical condition, social setting, or particular kind of challenge.

    But this is not a detailed script.

    Not every illness, loss, injustice, or act of violence was chosen before birth.

  • Incarnation begins before birth

    The Spirit’s connection with the new body begins at conception and becomes stronger as the body develops.

    At the same time, awareness of spiritual life gradually fades. Previous memories become hidden rather than destroyed.

    This forgetting allows the Spirit to face the present without being overwhelmed by past guilt, fear, attachment, or conflict.

    We enter a new life without carrying every previous memory consciously with us.

  • A life is not a script

    You may enter life with some circumstances prepared, but your choices are not fixed.

    A new incarnation creates another opportunity to learn, choose, repair, and grow.

    A life is not a sentence written before birth. It is a new field of possibility.

    What matters more than knowing an exact moment is recognizing that another earthly experience is being prepared.

    A Spirit may know that reincarnation is approaching without knowing every detail of how or when it will happen.

  • A Spirit may feel hesitation or fear about returning to physical life, especially if it anticipates difficulty, responsibility, or experiences it does not yet feel ready to face.

    Spiritism does not describe Spirits as emotionless beings who automatically welcome every incarnation. They may receive guidance, encouragement, and time to prepare.

    But remaining indefinitely outside physical life is not the goal of spiritual development.

    Fear may affect how a Spirit approaches reincarnation, but it does not permanently end its need to progress.

  • According to Spiritism, a Spirit preparing for incarnation is not necessarily alone. More advanced or affectionate Spirits may offer guidance, encouragement, or support during the transition toward physical life.

    This does not mean everyone receives the same assistance or consciously remembers it after birth. The relationships and help available may vary.

    Spiritual bonds can also continue across incarnations even when we no longer remember them consciously.

    Returning to Earth may begin within relationships of support that continue beyond what we can remember.
