Can a Deceased Loved One Visit You in a Dream?

A deceased loved one may sometimes meet or communicate with us during sleep, because the Spirit becomes partially freer from the physical body.

But not every dream is a spiritual visit. Memory, longing, imagination, and ordinary dreaming can also shape what we experience, so a vivid dream alone is not proof.

  • Sometimes a dream feels different

    You wake up remembering their face, their voice, perhaps even the feeling that for a few moments they were really there.

    And you wonder:

    Was it only a dream? According to Spiritism, perhaps not always.

  • Sleep may allow another kind of meeting

    During sleep, the bonds between the Spirit and the physical body become less restrictive.

    In that state, the Spirit may communicate with other Spirits—including people it loves who are no longer incarnated.

    So a dream can sometimes be more than a story created by the sleeping mind.

  • But not every dream is a visit

    Dreams can also be shaped by what we miss, fear, remember, or deeply want.

    Even when a spiritual experience occurs during sleep, what reaches our waking memory may be incomplete or mixed with images created by the mind.

    That is why certainty can be difficult.

  • Meaning does not require certainty

    A dream does not become meaningless because we cannot identify its source.

    What remains after waking—a sense of peace, reconciliation, recognition, or closeness—may matter more than deciding whether every image came from the mind or from a real encounter between Spirits.

    Not every dream is a visit. But not every meaningful dream has to be dismissed as nothing.

  • Love may find another way to meet

    Spiritism leaves room for both discernment and hope.

    Perhaps sometimes the mind dreams because it misses someone.

    And perhaps sometimes, while the body sleeps, love finds another way to meet.

    Spirits may visit friends or relatives during sleep without either person remembering the meeting clearly afterward. What remains may be only a feeling, intuition, or impression.
